| This letter from Teacher Shou-Liang Zhu (朱守亮 老師) which arrived on 2010-09-17 surprised me quite a bit but I was very happy because even though I've always wanted to get in touch with Teacher Zhu, I never expected to receive from him such a heart-warming letter. I dialed his phone number three times and was finally able to talk with him at around his 6:30 PM in Taiwan, which was my 3:30 AM in California. We talked for a very long time about many things, with me doing most of the listening. I was really happy and believed that Teacher Zhu was also happy that we were able to talk for the first time in more than 55 years. I see no reason why I shouldn't share this letter with all my HCHS friends and that's why I've posted the 3-page hand-written letter here. After my phone conversation with Teacher Shou-Liang Zhu (朱守亮 老師), I dialed the phone number of Teacher Ting-Chi Tang (湯廷池 老師) and talked with him for a very long time too. Again, we talked about all kinds of things with me doing most of the listening. I was very happy and believed that Teacher Tang was happy too that we were able to talk after more than 50 years. I then dialed the number of Teacher Jong-Hsiang Yang (楊榮祥 老師) at around his 9:30 PM in Taiwan, which was my 6:30 AM in California but couldn't get through. I dialed two more times afterwards and still couldn't get through, with all three calls at three different times diverted to a fax machine. I'll keep trying. (Bill Lee's Note on 2010-09-19: Received Teacher Yang's email which has in it Teacher Yang's new phone number in Hsinchu, to which he and his family had just moved. I dialed that number at around my 6:30 AM in California, which was his 9:30 PM in Taiwan and was very pleased to talk with 楊榮祥 老師 for the first time in many years.) Then, some time today, I dialed the phone number of Teacher Joseph Hsieh (謝淵泉 老師). 謝師母 picked up the phone first and handed the phone over to Teacher Hsieh, to whom the first thing I said laughingly was that "Today is my teacher-calling day". I had a great phone conversation with Teacher Joseph Hsieh too. He promised me that he'd send me an article of his, which he did. Please enjoy 朱守亮 老師's letter below. He has three books in the works, which might be available for HCHS friends to read at around the time of the December reunion. |
