| After I received the Chu Chung Class ’60 Directory in mid 2010, I found out that I knew twelve of twenty-seven passed away classmates. I had written two articles about 陳茂森 and 王吉平. Now I would like to pay my respect of the other ten classmates who I knew personally. 周建陽 was the son of our school doctor 周炳煌. I passed by their office every school day during my Chu Chung six years tenure. It was a beautiful two story building. I don’t remember that whether we were in the same class, but I just knew him. My impression of him was he was very personal and nice guy. 卜忠雄及卜廣坤 were my Senior Chu Chung Ding Ban classmates. 卜忠雄 was very athletic. He was a medal winner of Shot Put (鉛球) contest. How could such a strong man leave us so early? 卜廣坤 was a Korean oversea student. Both (雙卜) were very nice and strong men. 賴正義 was the only one got transferred from other department (Department of Geology) to the Department of Medicine of National Taiwan University (NTU) in 1961. It was a great achievement, since NTU’s Department of Medicine was the top choice of most high school grads. In the summer of 1962, we both stayed in NTU Dormitory No. 6. We had a lot of fun together. We even went to 萬華 to see what a whore house was like. Page 5 of 7 甘松山 was my Yee Ban classmate in the first year of Senior Chu Chung. We called him “Guard Son (甘兒子)”. He did not mind at all. What a nice guy! He was a home town kid of 湯廷池老師. 湯老師 invited his home town kids to his home sometime. It made us jealous. That was why we called him the “Guard Son (甘兒子)” of 湯老師. Recently I had a long talk with 湯老師, he told me why he was so close to 甘松山 and other his home town kids. It was due to his volunteer work at his home town primary school every summer, so he knew these guys when they were very young. It created a special bond. 連勝雄 and 鄭建雄 were my Min-Fu Primary School Ren Ban classmates. Both were also my Junior Chu Chung Ding Ban classmates. 連勝雄 lived not too far from my home in Hsinchu. I passed by his home on my route to Chu Chung. 鄭建雄 was in the baseball team of Min-Fu. He was very athletic and strong. Both of them were very personal and nice. 鄧俊宏 was my Senior Chu Chung first year Yee Ban classmate. I am sorry that I don’t really know him well enough to write something about him. 何智弘 was in Berkeley in 1970s. 曾文守 introduced us while we were in Berkeley. He and 曾文守 were from the same home town, Chu-Bei. I am sorry again that I don’ t really know him well enough to write something about him. 陳盛弼 was my Senior Chu Chung Ding Ban classmate. I am sorry again that I don’t really know him well enough to write something about him. Now I feel much relief after I wrote down what I remembered about these wonderful passed-away classmates. One question comes to my mind: “Why these nice guys did not last?” Was it like the Chinese old saying: “Nice guy did not have a long life and bad guy lasts one thousand years or forever (好人不長壽,壞人活千年)”? I am not a bad guy, so I won’t live one thousand years. Ha! Ha! These passed-away classmates were strong and nice men. It is just not fair for them to leave us so soon. They will be in my memory for the rest of my life. I wish their family knew how much we cared about them. T.Y.’s Point: Most of us are approaching seventy years young. It was considered to be a rare age in life (人生七十古來稀). I don’t think we could change the fact of life. Our body will deteriorate every second. There is nothing we could do to stop aging, but what inside our head is up to us to deal with. My recommendation is to think young and then you will feel young. Try to live every day to the fullest; you will be a very happy person. Try it, you will like it. Best wishes to you and your family. Thanks (謝謝)! Please see the following Phrase by Tang Yn: “70” Phrase by Tang Yn Seventy is a rare age in life for us since the ancient times. I am surprised that I am seventy years old now. My first ten years, I was young and naive. The last ten years, I have been old and weak. There were other fifty years. Half of these ages were in the dark. There are only twenty-five years during which I am awakened and useful. I still suffered a lot trouble and worked hard. PS: Tang Yn (Tang Baihu) was a scholar and genius of South China in Ming Dynasty. This Phrase (詞) was provided by Provincial Hsinchu High School alumnus. I am almost seventy years old. I do not think this way at all. I have been thinking young all my life. I have a brain of teenager in my head with a body of almost seventy year old. Thinking young will make you feel young and energetic. You have to try to find out your mental age. You will be surprised; I guaranteed it or your money back. This is my sincere advice. |
