Dear Family and Friends,

“Did the government build it?”  Time and time again, I heard many flabbergasted tourists asking this upon seeing
Arizona’s Grand Canyon.  Thanks to you for allowing us the time, Jenny, Calvin, and I made a trip there last week as
part of our anniversary celebration.  We had a great time in the Canyon and come away amazed at its beauty and
grandeur.

Theodore Roosevelt remarked that it was “the one great sight which every American should see.”  Besides many
Americans, we met and chatted with holiday-makers from China, Japan, Korea, Italy, France, England, and Sweden.
As a matter of fact, at least 5 million people, as officially estimated, from all over the world visit every year and walk
away struggling for words to describe it.

“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth!”  As I lifted my hands and proclaimed God’s creation, my
loud and strong voice not only surprised my own family, but also shocked many visitors around us.  More than giving
God our Creator the credit for building the canyon, I declared our Maker’s praise, His Majesty, and Lordship of our
God.  “From everlasting to everlasting, He is God and He is great!”

I did hear “Yes, you’re right” and I did see people nodding their head.  Meanwhile, as I looked around, I also saw
others perplexed, wondering, seemingly a bit carried away… “Dad, you may have shocked people,” Calvin quietly
reminded me as we walked away from the crowd.  He may be right and I am glad to see he is sensitive enough.  But I
rest in the thought, “This Is My Father’s World.”

Luther is surely right in saying that one meaning of speaking of God as Creator of heaven and earth is that “God has
created me.”  I am not ashamed of the gospel that I can call the Almighty Creator “Abba Father.”  Instead, we are all
drawn closer to our Maker in His mighty works.  Creation is not closed.  The Spirit of God, who moved upon the face
of the waters in the beginning, continues to call us today to be God’s partners – God’s co-workers (1 Cor. 3:9).  We
are labourers together with God.  In His renewing and transforming ministry, here and now at Bethlehem, what is your
part?  What is your calling?

In God’s Grace,

Pastor Frank
