| Dear Bill: It was a wonderful feeling to see three classmates: 陳正雄、林毅夫 and 林明德 during my stay when I attended a MTSC (Midwest Taiwanese Summer Conference, 7/5-8/12, Theme: i 台灣, 保主權) held at Judson University, Elgin, IL. I thank Dave and his wife, Su for king's treat at their home; Ih-Foo's explicit talk and expert analysis on 「饗網羅雷來石上的美女﹝中間選民﹞,省思台灣人的 心態」; and Ming-Ter's personalized check-up and spiritual guidance of Buddha. Just share some photos taken during my visit with you and our classmates. Hope that our eyes and mind are still sharp enough to recognize who is who in the photos. On the subject of polarization of voters worldwide, may I offer the thought of "compromise" to you, our classmates, and your web site viewers? Fred Hiatt, Editorial Page Editor of The Washington Post wrote a commentary, "The Art of Compromise: Lessons from Aung San Suu Kyi." in TWP on A15, Monday, July 2, 2012. Let me quote some words in the article from both Hiatt and Aung San for your information below. "She deflects canonization and any romanticizing of what she's has been through. Finally accepting her prize in Olso last month, she began one sentence this way:"Of the sweets of adversity-and let me say that these are not numerous..."" "But she went on to note that the most of precious 'sweets" was "the lesson I learnt on the value of kindness. Every kindness I received, small or big, convinced me that there could never be enough of it in our world. To be kind is to respond with sensitivity and human warmth to the hopes and needs of others."" Let's all be kind to one another! 張貴洋 Kwei-Yang Ben Chang |
