After I graduated from HCHS (1960) and NCKU (1965), I came to the US for graduste study at the
the University of Pennsylvania in chemistry. I had accomplished some nice works on enzyme kinetics and
mechanism. In order to improve my family’s standard of living, I then worked for the industrial companies.
Due to the office politics and personnel conflict, I had to change job every few years. The relocation from
one place to another for many times had put a lot of pressure on my family. I was very sad and disturbed
tremendously. One morning I was suddenly awaken to realize that my personal situation by working for
other companies could never be improved, so that I started my own company working on diagnostic
technology with antibody/antigen reaction format. It was not easy in the beginning. However, it has been
more than twenty years since I started to work for my own company. My company’s specialty products
have been sold not only in the US but also throughout the world. I am very happy to tell you that I am the
luckiest man on this planet despite all the difficulties I had encountered. My wife and I have traveled and
cruised around the world.  We have two children, Christine and Roger. They all graduated from Wharton
Business School, University of Pennsylvania. (2010/06/25)

I am very proud to tell you that I have set up a Joseph Wu scholarship Fund for up to three recipients
each year. Each selected recipient will receive an award plaque and $1,000 scholarship. The idea of this
scholarship is to encourage the children of National Cheng Kung University Alumni Association
(NCKUAA) of North America to pursue the basic science studies in chemistry, physics, molecular biology,
or mathematics. It is my hope that the recipients in those important fields will make much more
contribution to the world. Since I have a lot of dreams I can not accomplish and a lot of important tasks I
can not fulfill in my life, I need to ask the new generation of NCKU alumni to carry out for us or for the
spirit of NCKU. I might consider to do something to the children of HCHS Alumni Association of North
America in the near future. (2010/06/25)

You are not only my HCSH alumni of 1960 but also roommate and alumni from NCKU of 1965. Your
father was always very kind to me during my years at HCSH. I still miss all those meatballs from Eastern
Gate Circle. I still remember well that when I was in Taipei about 20 some years ago, you and your wife
entertained my wife and me with luxurious and very delicious dinner. I would never forget your friendship
as my roommate over those years when we were at NCKU.

As the Chinese saying goes, time is flying by like an arrow. I am getting old and older everyday.
However, I am still operating my biotech business and selling and/or contracting a great diversity of
specialty immunochemicals throughout the world. I sincerely hope that I have the opportunity to see you
again at this stag of my life and also to reciprocate your favors if you should come to New York/New
Jersey area. (2010/07/04, in his email to Pier Huang /30525)

From our recent email exchange, I received a response from
徐振宣 (Stephen Chen-Hsuan Hsu). After I
have read his email, his name was always ringing in my remote memory, but I was not able to figure out
how he looked like back to 50 years ago. So, I emailed and suggested to him that we ought to have a
lunch or dinner together.

He and his wife then invited me to get together at his summer home in Pocono resort area in
Pennsylvania on July 4th holiday. My wife and I had a wonderful time with them together to chat, to eat
and laugh. That was the best life all about.

古人說:他鄉遇故知是人生一大樂。
這句話確實說得很對。

Steve is not only my classmate at HCHS, but his wife, Ann, is also my schoolmate during the years of my
graduate study at University of Pennsylvania.  She worked her graduate program in the same complex
building as I did. That was more than 30 years ago.

We sat and chatted in front of a beautiful lake with the grand mountain in the back from his summer
home. That was a very beautiful moment beyond I can describe. Steve has a nice boat. He gave us a
boat ride along the lake, and a tour to the golf course. We then stopped by the resort hotel to see the
spectacular view of the mountain range. What a marvelous place we spent a July 4th holiday with a great
couple! (2010/07/06)

After I looked at all the pictures you have sent out, I can not help but write you, although I don’t have your
picture in my remote memory. First of all, thank you so much for all the pictures you have collected and
sharing with us. Every piece of pictures from that old time is invaluable. I am so impressed to see them,
and I enjoyed looking at them again and again. I was hoping to see myself in there from my imagination
as a young kid.

When we were young, we could have everything to look for. However, when we are getting old and older
everyday, we can try sensibly to do something beneficial to American Cancer Society or to encourage the
youngster with the scholarship of our intention as I have been trying to do.

I still remember very clearly in the class of
彭商育老師. I was not very good at math. During his teaching,
I barely passed his course. The most admired classmate before the class was split is Dr. Jan Kung-Ming
(
詹恭明). The reason I say that is that one day we got a quiz without any notice from彭商育老師. Most of
the classmates including me, of course, failed the quiz, but Dr. Jan Kung-Ming got score more than 95
points. His intelligence and math ability was admirable. I have been very fortunate to know all his other
brothers as brilliant medical doctors who all reside now in CA.

Anyway, I just want to jot down a small event I could still remember to share with our friends from HCSH
class of 1960. (Quote from his 2010/07/03 email to Bill Lee /30203)
