I got married in late May, 1970. It's therefore to our great pleasure that my daughter and her husband (my
daughter, a tax lawyer with a DC law firm; her husband, an attorney with the Social Security
Administration) were able to drive a long way during Memorial Day long weekend a month ago to meet
her brother (my older son, a Post Doc with Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge,
Massachusetts) and go together to visit Harvard University Chapel, where my wedding ceremony took
place 40 years ago. (My third child, a boy, is currently an ECE/UMCP graduate student.) All my three
children grew up and went to school through college in Taiwan; and as a result, they all had to face the
tremendous pressure due to culture and language barriers, when they went abroad to pursue advanced
studies in the USA. (2010/06/30)
My wife and I returned to Taiwan in 1976 (after my PhD study in geological sciences at Harvard, Post
Doc at Penn-State, and Humboldt Research Fellow in West Germany; while my wife, received her MS in
biology from Baylor University, being employed briefly at Harvard biology department, pursued but didn't
finish her doctorate study in West Germany), entered Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology
(CSIST) and stayed there until we both retired in 2007 from Institute of Nuclear Energy Research (INER
split off from CSIST becoming a civilian research institute in 1989). We have been enjoying the “time
bonus” of our retirement life since then; with occasional trips to go to see our children in America, as in
the words of one of my friends: "To carry out inspection on North American Affairs". (2010/06/30)
