| Taiwan Island Village: 台灣島村: Hsinchu (Xinzhu) High School Reminisced 憶竹中 忆竹中 |
I went to HsinChu High School from Saigon, Vietnam during the year of 1958 and spent two years at
HsinChu. Of course, Kung Ming was the "dragon head" in my class. Needless to say, all my classmates
were nice to me. After graduation, I went to Cheng Kung University and spent one year in Tainan, then
Taida for another 4 years. I got my BS degree in Science (Dept. of Chemistry, 1965) and went to the
graduated school of the University of New Brunswick, Canada.
I got my PhD degree (Organic Chemistry) in the summer of l969 and went to the Institute of Biochemical
Research, University of Texas at Austin as postdoctoral for three and half years (June 1969 to Feb
1973). My first industrial job was working as a senior research scientist at the Bioproduct Dept of
Beckman Instrument Inc., Palo Alto, CA. After 4 years, I started my own Biotech business with other 4
partner (Peninsula Laboratories Inc) in the San Francisco bay area (Aug 1977-April 1994). In the year of
1994, I sold my stocks and formed Phoenix Pharmaceuticals Inc (Burlingame, CA) with my ex-wife and
this company had been survived for 16 years already.
As a biochemist, my specialty is synthetic peptides hormones and their related products. I do have
operations in Europe (Germany and France) and China (Beijing). Phoenix Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a small
but profitable company. We only have ca.50 employees with around 7 million US dollars revenues.
I do have three daughters, Crystal (30 years old, she is working in my company), Christine (28 years old)
and Eva Chang (8 years old), I don't have a son yet.
I do miss the good time in HsinChu and will attend the great re-union at the end of this year. I will
contribute a small amount of money (2000 US dollars) to the meeting organizers. (2010/07/12)
