| From: Shing Lin Date: Thursday, October 28, 2010 7:04 PM To: Yang Family and EE Class of 1964 Subject: In Memory of Mark Yang Dear Classmates, I attached six more photos in memory of MarkYang. I found that the more time I stare at the photos, the more it reminds me of our good old time. 518: I took this photo when we were freshmen (so I was not in the photo). MarkYang was right in the middle. The one on the left is 廖益亨 & the number 3 (0 based) from the left is 彭義平. Both of them eventually transferred to other department. The flowers in the foreground looks like azalea. But judging from the clothes and the body language of everyone, it had to be late autumn or early winter. Can azalea bloom in the early winter? 143: I zeroed in 沈安邦. But she seemed not in the mood. 洪俊雄 was chatting with 教官. I think he talked to the wrong person, no wonder Miss Shen was not in the right mood. Meanwhile I was careful not to miss our MarkYang. You can see him in the background (last row), talking & smiling to perhaps another girl. I am sure he was having a good time. You can also see Ed Ho on the left hand side between two girls. He seemed always know where to sit. This photo was taken in our freshmen year. The girls we invited were from 圖書館系. 537: Taken in 1964, our graduation. All of us look young, fit & promising. MarkYang already showed the look of a scholar. When time goes by, they turned out to be in different profession: Scholar, Physician & Engineer. Meanwhile, I have no idea why 卞昭廣 was in casual outfit, a white shirt. Perhaps he knew something we didn't. I can't remember who took this photo. Anyway, it looked as if we were heading to 台大速簡餐廳 after the photo session. 064: This nice photo was taken in 1972 at MarkYang's residence. From left to right (front & back row in pair) are I was not in the photo as I was taking the photo at the moment. MarkYang looked the youngest as he got the baby face with interesting hair style at that time. The cute little girl is the daughter of MarkYang, was two years old then perhaps. By the way, 萬宗柱 is my high school classmate. He was at the University of Florida in 1972. This photo was taken after we visited the Disney World. This is one of the most memorable moment in the decade of 1970. 120: The Three Musketeers of the Taida EE64. This was taken during the Norwegian Cruise in 2007. it looked as if Amo & I were ready for actions. However, our MarkYang looked so casual & relax, he even put his hands in his pockets & smiled profusely. 104: The Magnificent Seven of the Taida EE64. This was also taken during the Norwegian Cruise. Everybody was smiling, especially MarkYang. This was one of our happiest time in the reunion. These photos remind me of many happy moments with MarkYang, his voice & his smile. We regret the mother nature cut his life short. I called my daughter (a neurologist) to find out more about aneurysm. Here is what she said: "Basically there is a weakening of the blood vessel walls that allows the vessel to balloon out. High blood pressure, smoking, and a genetic tendency to aneurysms can cause it to rupture. Anyone can have them though. A lot of people go through life with them and never know it, ending up dying from something completely unrelated. Small ones can be monitored conservatively. Larger ones need to be surgically fixed. Warning signs include certain types of headaches and certain neurologic signs. Sometimes there is no warning at all." This "sometimes there is no warning at all" is the most dangerous one. I feel so sad that we lose MarkYang this way, no warning at all. |

| From: Shing Lin Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2010 9:00 PM To: EE Class of 1964 Subject: RE: Dear Classmates: I just got the phone call from TC Mo that Mark TC Yang passed away yesterday. It was a complete shock to me & I still can’t recover from it at this moment. I remember him as a good student, an outstanding scholar and a man of integrity. He was also a man of many interests & very responsive in any of our communication. He was truly a man of warm heart, cool head & integrity in character. It is a terrible loss to our class of Taida EE64. According to TC Mo, he suffered from a symptom of aneurysm (動脈瘤, 動脈腫脹, or 動脈破裂). It is a killing symptom & can be very quick. It is the only good thing we can hope for that he did not suffer a long spasm of pain. Every once in a while, MarkYang would drop something in his email to us. I like his wit & arguments, so very often I was the first one to respond to his email. I found it very thought stimulating in the process of discuss with him. We no longer have the luxury or any chance in doing so again. I am very sad but found some consolation in reading some of his old emails & blogs. It is very fortunate that we have a lot of writings from him in our TaidaEE64 blog (http://ntuee64.blogspot.com/). His latest one was written on 10/03/2010, indeed this month! In the comment, I responded: "I did perform the same tricks several times right after the cruise & I enjoyed doing it. Since it is not really my hobby, I forgot the details eventually. This is what we call “Use it or Lose it”. However, I will learn some other tricks from MarkYang if we meet again. It is just fun, life needs varieties to paint more colors." Alas, I no longer have the chance to learn some tricks from him. How sad this is! In his latest blog, he said at the end with the following poem: 少時上課同堂,晚來滄海同舟,老身相聚何所有?有說,有笑,有酒。 晝看片片浮雲,夜數點點繁星,船中賭場論人生,是贏,是輸,是平? 但 願 照 崑 兄 在 天 之 靈, 有 說, 有 笑, 有贏, 沒輸. PS0: I still can’t get over the news that he is no longer with us. I flipped over some of my photo albums & computer files to see what I can get about him. Here I attach one photo & hope all of us can capture some of our good old memory about him. PS1: I also CC Mark Yang & wish he receives this as we all care about him so much. |

| From: Paul Tien Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2010 10:18 PM To: EE Class of 1964 Subject: RE: Dear Classmates and Friends, I cannot believe, and is saddened that Mark left us this soon. Leah and I really enjoyed our Southeast-Coast connection with Mark and Sharon early‘70s while I was teaching in Savannah, Georgia which was a relative short drive from Gainesville. We cheered and blessed Mark’s family blossoming to a six member happy family. I have been staying at sideline to watch and benefit from all these e-mail dialogs among our classmates. Mark always impressed me from Taida days that he would take initiatives, provide information and reach conclusions for many different subject matters, scientific stuff or what have you. We will miss him a lot. Our deepest condolences to Sharon and the Yang family.

It seems only yesterday when Mark and his wife visited LA in 8/8/2009 and had the attached photo taken in my house. You can see how healthy and young he was in comparison to his EE classmates in the picture. I can't believe this turned out to be Mark's last picture with us. I have treasured the association and friendship with him. He will always be remembered. Shun-Yi |

| From: AJ Chen Date: Wednesday, October 27, 2010 7:21 AM To: EE Class of 1964 Subject: RE: Dear Mo and Classmtes: I firstly leaned of Mark's illness from B. L. Cheng 8:47 am, 10/26, Taiwan time and then received a phone call from Ah Mo, midnight, 10/26, just before we went to bed. It's , indeed, a big shock to me and all the rest of our classmates. I can only say that 天妒英才. I read through all the 12 e-mails, sent by our claaassmtes from 10/27 7:05 am to 2:00 pm. Besides we missed a great friend with intelligenc and integrety and sent our condolences to his family, I do have additional comments. 1. I endorsed George's suggestion to give Mark's family some gift, as well as the flowers in the funeral. As Ah Mo would be one of a few classmates to attend the funeral, you might help us to buy one, which will be also covered by our travel fund accumulated in our 3 cruise reunions. 2. Two Marks contirbuted most to our blog and e-mail comments. Now that Mark Yang is gone, we need additional efforts from Mark Lin. 3. Mark is a family man, who had a well plan to raise kids. Notice that 4 of his kids were born in 3 - 4 years apart. I must apologize, belately that I forgot to double check with Mark about our time of Hawaii cruise. He had the first week of class during our cruise and just couldn't miss it.If we moved the cruise one week ahead, and he and Sharon would be able to attend. Who knows the world might change total difference all together. I urge all of our classmates to attend our 2012 reunion. With best regards, A. J. Chen |

I am sure you are feeling sad but we also know Mark is in a better place and he is protected, comforted and loved. He is relieved of all pains and sufferring. Often I think he is such a distinguished classmate with professional and social success, and raised good family. He has compasion, is witty, cherish, and humorous, with a lot of skills and talents. We admire him and will surely miss him always. I remember his talks when we were in Taipei for the 40 year class reunion in Taiwan, and we were in the trips celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary abord the cruise ship to Norway. We are comforted that you and your children are strong and established, and you will be in our prayers. I never asked whether you are Christians but surely like to invite you become one if not. You and all your family members will receive endless mercies from our God, and we will be in heaven some days. Sorry that I write a bit late, since I am on my way to China for planed business trips on Thursday the 28th..

Yang Dear 小慈 and Family, I was shocked and saddened when I received the messages while traveling. Many scenes flashed through my mind: our trip to the Everglades before our children were born, our various visits during several Christmas holidays, our ministry together at the Southeast Regional Retreat, and your visit to Hong Kong. Although I have not been active in our class reunion activities due to work and church commitments, I was following the discussions through e-mails. Mark's wit and insights in those discussions always inspired me. As many of our classmates have said, Mark will be sorely missed. I understand that your family is going through a very difficult time due to Mark's sudden departure. Words cannot express our sense of loss. But we rest our hope on Lord Jesus who will reunite us all in His presence eventually. May you all find peace and comfort through Him. In His fellowship, -Vincent & Margaret
| From: Leonard Li Date: Thursday, October 28, 2010 4:07 PM To: Yang Family and EE Class of 1964 Subject: Re: To EE Class of 1964 from the family of Dr. Mark C.K. Yang Dear Sharon, Lynn, Jean, Grace, and Justin, Since I received the call from Jean on Tuesday morning, memories of Chao-Kuen have been going through my mind all this time. It has been fifty years since we began our close friendship as freshman EE students at Taida. We were all teenagers when we first met, now we’re all retirees. At a moment like this, one really gets the sense that half a century is but “a watch in the night” (Psalm 90:4). Chao-Kuen is a person with uniquely admirable characters. He was extremely intelligent yet at the same time very unpretentious, genuine, and friendly. I know he had been a great teacher and mathematician, but I also know he had never considered his career or accomplishments as important as his own family. I greatly respected him for how he really set right his priorities in life. I also rejoice that he had found the true God who gives salvation to all who believe. What a privilege it is to have a dear friend like Chao-Kuen. I always remember what a pastor said at a memorial service many years ago: “We are in sorrow not for the person who passed away, because he is now in a place that is much better than this world. We are sorrowful for ourselves, because for a while we will not see him here and we miss him dearly.” Indeed for a while we will not be seeing Chao-Kuen or talking to him in this world, but we have the assured hope that one day all of us will rejoice together in eternity. And for that I praise and give thanks to the Creator of the universe for giving us such a perfect salvation and such great hope. When my father died suddenly from heart attack one morning in 1965, at age 60, it was this hope that was most precious to me. I am sure that the same thoughts and hope, not from man but from the eternal Creator, will sustain you with His comfort and peace until the day we see Chao-Kuen again. We are grateful to Charles that he will be attending the memorial service representing all of Chao-Kuen’s classmates who dearly miss him. Our condolences and prayers will be with you at this difficult time. May the God of peace comfort all of you with His presence and sustain you with His grace. Shou-yung and Susie |
